The essence of ENVOL bags
By creating ENVOL, I wanted to think differently about the bag, this product on which I worked for more than ten years. Not only did I want to design it in a sustainable way, but I also felt that something else was at stake, in terms of what the bag, this typically feminine object, represents for women.
Sociologist JC Kaufmann says that we women fight for equality with men, but we pay for it with a weight of existence embodied in our bags. We have more freedom today than at certain periods in history, but also more pressure. And our bags have grown heavier with our emancipation. We're constantly running, we have a thousand things on our minds and, as a result, in our bags, which have become a revealer of the mental load we carry. It sometimes hampers us, while men remain light, hands in their pockets.
According to Bourdieu again, the bag, like the skirt, is a kind of "invisible corset" that imposes a way of walking and acts as a reminder, reminding women of certain paradoxical injunctions, such as the need to be efficient in their urban journey, while carrying a bag that is often inappropriate because it is focused on its other mission: that of making them attractive in the eyes of others.
So I asked myself : what if we escaped this permanent tension between freedom and constraint, efficiency and appearance? What if we took back the power of our days by being comfortable with our bag without sacrificing our style? We could also consider it for what it really is: a psychological weapon to feel stronger outside the home. The essence of ENVOL is to create bags that truly serve women. Their real lives. Their aspirations. Everyday companions that don't hinder their movements, that know how to move at their own pace and become one with them, giving them all the space to inhabit the world.
So that they can lead the dance. So that they can free themselves from their shackles. So that they can spread their wings. So that they can fly !
